Pete and Bailey Skewes, Mick and Patrick Butler descided on a Road Trip . . . and headed to Rosebud for the Victorian State Titles last weekend.
Good opportunity to promote the Nationals and get some big fleet racing . . . and attempt to bring back the Trophy!!
Well . . . at least 2 of these targets were achieved beyond expectations. Interest in the Nationals was excellent . . . the 16 fleet was the biggest in Victoria for years . . . but the Trophy stayed south of the border :0( . . . for this year! :0)
Undeterred by a dodgy forecast . . . departed Vincentia at lunchtime Friday and despite a detour through Wagga and a lot of rain . . . arrived at our motel just north of Melbourne not to far behind schedule.
Saturday morning produced 2 good results straight up.
It was not raining and even if it did we had an offer of accommodation from Aaron Worrall so the tent could stay in its bag.
Total of 3 races on Sat . . . mostly light conditions and there was no stand out boat in the 16 fleet.
3 more races on Sunday again in light to medium wind. Mick and Patrick had a great day to move into the lead of the 16’s but their lead was slender and with 20kg of lead hanging in the middle of the tramp any solid breeze would make it hard to hold off the pack on their tails.
2 races to finish on Monday morning were in the best breeze of the weekend . Bit too windy for Mick and Pat . . . but when the wind kicked in even harder for the reach home everyone got to the beach with big smiles on their faces.
Congratulations to Aaron and Naomi sailing an old boat with tired sails they showed their class to win through in the end. Great to see Youth teams in 2nd and 4th. The racing in the 16 fleet was extremely close The fact that 8 races had 6 different winners is proof of this.
It was a terrific weekend overall.
The worst of the weather went around us . . . we even got hot at times .
Melbourne 4 seasons in a day??? . . . try 4 seasons in an hour.
Both teams achieved results beyond their expectations . . . We caught up with old friends and made new ones. The boys were put outside their comfort zones and came through with flying colours.
Next year Angelsea? Definitely Maybe!
